Our History

There’s a highly skilled team behind the company, one that believes in harnessing technological advancements for the benefit of the greater good. We worked hand in hand with surgeons and medical bodies from the beginning, listening to their issues, welcoming their feedback and understanding their concerns. The products we’ve designed for surgeons in medical, dental and veterinary settings need to address issues that have been problematic in the past, and that’s why we continue to seek the opinions of those in the front line of surgical procedures. We always have, and we always will.

Thanks to our in-depth knowledge of the problems facing surgeons in many parts of the world, we’ve been able to develop products that have the ability to be game-changers in the medical industry. Medical and healthcare professionals carry out incredibly complex procedures on a daily basis, often under intense pressure and with very little time to make life or death decisions. Innovative products that can make their daily working lives easier are a passion of ours, so we continue to seek out ways to push the barriers on behalf of the industry. By developing products that make life easier for surgeons, we are of course helping patients and caregivers along the way. The medical sector has always benefited from great innovations over the years, and Clear Surgical are determined to continue that trend. Surgeons rely on a combination of light sources when operating on patients, but none of these sources were able to provide targeted, uninterrupted illumination in the darkest cavities. The OpLight, a single-use, sterile and practical solution that can be placed in a specific location as and when necessary, offers powerful, targetable lighting even under flaps. Based on an original concept of Murali Subramaniam, a practising vascular surgeon who worked at NHS Ayrshire and Arran, it has become a major boon to the sector, a sector in which more than 90% of surgeons have had issues associated with operating theatre lighting.

The development and manufacture of the OpLight has enabled it to become not only the signature product of our organisation, it has also come to underline the business ethos of Clear Surgical. As a company that’s dedicated to innovation, we’re proud of the effect the OpLight has had on the medical sector. In the not so distant past, surgeons had to contend with the shadowing from overhead lights and the aches and pains caused by head-mounted lights, now there is clear, constant illumination for all. We’re exceptionally happy to say the positive comments from the industry were what we were looking to generate all along.

Here at Clear Surgical, we don’t believe in ever resting on our laurels, so while the OpLight is revolutionising conditions in medical rooms and operating theatres, we’re already working on future developments.
